Get close to the load

This helps allow for increased comfort, ease of repositioning and better posture. This also increases the patient’s safety and allows them to feel more supported.

Use a wide stable base

This feature provides increased stability and support and ensures the patient has enough space to feel safe. The wider stable base also provides increased durability for improved care.

Ensure a comfortable firm grasp

This provides further safety and comfort for the patient and the caregiver, whilst ensuring the patient has a sense of security.

Keep the spine close to neutral

This allows the user to stand up in the most natural way. Keeping the spine neutral is the optimal way to attain balance, proportion and stabilise the spine. This helps by placing the least amount of stress on the body’s tissues. The neutral spine position allows activation of the right muscles, whilst using the least amount of energy to maintain positioning.

Make sure the movement is smooth

This is vital to improve the patient’s mobility, as standing up is naturally a smooth movement it is most important to replicate it in the same way. This factor is also important to provide maximum comfort and a sense of safety for the patient. This will help increase their confidence and independence, therefore increasing their mobility.

The Oxford Up is designed for people who have difficulty standing independently but can still actively use their muscles and are cognitively sound to stand.

Having the ability to stand up independently is one of the most essential daily actions. Most people would not think about standing up when they do it. Therefore, when aged, muscularly affected, or people in recovery are losing or gaining mobility it is vital that these actions and activities are practiced. This helps ensure mobility is kept and improved and increases independence. The Oxford Up encourages active engagement and promotes muscle tone and balance, by assisting but not doing it for the patient. Being able to stand up easily has a huge impact on daily activities such as getting out of bed and getting up from a toilet or chair. Through encouraging the use of these muscles, it will help provide improved stability, balance and mobility, therefore increasing independence.

The Up has the latest advancement in design, being easy for the caregivers and comfortable for the patient. Only requiring one caregiver to use, the Up is ideal for those short on staff, family members, or carers. The Up is perfect for in-home care situations and facilities, being lightweight and easy to manoeuvre. The easily adjustable legs on the Up allow for effortless access around furniture and provides the ability to get closer to the patient. This ensures the patient is comfortable and promotes better posture and positioning.

The Up features contoured swing-away seat pads which have been designed for maximum comfort. As each one pivots outwards this helps provide unobstructed access for the patient. This is most important to ensure the patient still feels independent and assistance is available when needed.

The Up was created with ergonomic design considerations at the forefront of mind. With five key principles of moving and handling, the main aim was simple, safe and comfortable. Each of the five key principles are outlined below.

If you don’t use it, you lose it...
